cd player stopped working

So driving today and my CD player has stopped working, it won't recgonise that a disc is inserted and won't eject the disc either. Everything else related to the ccc i drive works fine.

Worst case senerio is that the head unit will have to replaced. Can these be replaced on there own or are they paired with the idrive unit.

if the headunit can be replaced on its own is it plug and play or does it need to be coded?

its an 08 plate e92 330d
