Preparation befor painting 335i calipers

I have removed the pads from the calipers, and slid out the middle part, do I need to undo the two metal guides or just tape them up?



Also on the caliper do I need to compress the piston (and tape up) before painting or can I just tape it up with it un compressed?



I'll take some photos tonight to better explain this.
