Had a couple very nice experiences yesterday

These have both been topics of their own threads but I had them both yesterday just a few hours apart and they made me smile.

I’d just gotten the car washed and I’m sitting at a light with my windows down. There’s a guy next to me in a pick-up but I don’t really notice him. Then I hear through the open passenger window: “Is that a 1 series?” Impressed that he knows, I turn, flash a smile, and say, “Yes, yes it is. It’s a 135”. He looks at it appreciatively and says “Nice car”. “Thanks”, I say. Then add, “They’re not being made any more”. He looks at the car appreciatively again and says “Too bad, that’s a really nice car”. I thank him again, the light turns green, and he watches me pull away.

A few hours later I’m driving down Kapiolani Blvd. headed to Kaimuki to pick up my daughter from day care. The road is multi-lane with two lanes east bound at this point and a fair amount of traffic. I’m in relax mode just tooling along with more space between me and the car in front than I normally allow (don’t like people cutting in front of me). Suddenly, a silver 335i passes me on the right and does cut in front of me. Well, like I said I’m in relax mode and he did it with a fair modicum of skill so I don’t really mind that much. That’s cool guy, I think to myself. But a part of me is also going "freakin’ 335i thinks he’s hot shit". The road widens and the lane we are both in with him in front turns into two lanes that become left hand turn lanes onto a two lane highway uphill on ramp at a stop light. He stays in his lane and I move over into the other lane to his left, both of us stopped at the light. At green we both start up, him being a little aggressive on the throttle. I pace him with just a foot lead. He doesn’t like that, probably going “freakin little 1 series thinks he’s hot shit” to himself, and lays into the throttle. BOOM. I get serious and he falls behind, most likely in shock, then cut over in front of him with ample space between us and keep on the boost. He gives up and falls way back in the rear view and I’m on the highway then quickly off at the next off ramp to Kaimuki. Scratch one 335i and I’m smiling.

It’s good to be a 1er driver.
