Thinking about an 2011 E90, 335i, reliability? warranty options? etc?

Hey all, thinking seriously about jumping into he BMW world. Long time car guy, lusted after BMW's for awhile. Looking at F30's and E90's. I've got a reasonable amount of seat time in the F30 and E90 over the years. I definitely like both vehicles and I do not want this to be a flame war or something similar.

I want something reasonably reliable, CPO and I"m not opposed to purchasing additional warranty coverage if necessary. The E90 has a few qualities which I prefer over the F30.

I went to lunch in my buddies F30 328i 8AT and luxury line on Wednesday. I noticed a fair amount of road noise as I had in another F30 and in previous trips in his but not much wind noise. The interior was virtually rattle and squeek free. But the car is definitely under damped on the freeway and as a result is a bit floaty.

Today I went in an E90 (328i) I plan to do another tomorrow (both 2011 models) and honestly it sounded like far less road noise but a bit more wind noise. Both cars are on factory run flats. Another thing that I didn't really expect was, while I like the look/layout of the F30 from a visual standpoint in the cabin I almost prefer the E90, I say almost because I'm really not sure at this point. Furthermore the cabin materials overall seemed a bit better in the E90, notably the door/door panels.

Exterior wise I prefer the E90. I like the firmer ride but it's not exactly a fair comparison since I need to drive a sportline F30, something I've yet to do.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not I want an F30 328i or a 2011 (twin scroll) 335i. Maybe it comes down to what I can find a better deal on first.

Also the economics make it pretty easy to justify a 2011 E90 (I would have to do a 2013 F30, won't do a first model year). Much easier for the wife to handle as well since we would be making a cash purchase...I guess I forgot how much I adored the E90...I dunno now I'm on the fence.

The firmer ride of the E90 is likely not going to bother me, I drove a mazdaspeed3 for several years and it didn't bug me. I need something with a bit more leg room for hauling kiddos around our second kid is on the way (car seats are big and I'm tall). I also want something that I can get coworkers in without much issue.

Throughout the E90 life they had a few issues with ignition coils, water pumps, HPFP's, etc. Were most of these wrinkles ironed out and is this a car I can run to 125 to 150k pretty easily? Friend of mine is over 175k on his 335i, he's had one HPFP fail, water pump and an oil pan gasket...his is a 2008. But overall pretty trouble free I'd say.

I'm willing to pay extra for warranty and/or CPO depending on costs and coverage differences.

I would also prefer to get a 6MT which seems especially tough to find so it may take a couple of months. In the event that I can't, how is the auto in the 2011 335? I remember it being decent in my buddies 2008 but not great. Any transmission issues with either that I should know about?

Whether I go F30 or E90 sedan is a must. I think they'll be a fair amount of E90s popping back onto the market as leases continue to expire the next six to eight months.

Any help/thoughts etc would be greatly appreciated.
