Opinions: Extended trip..take the 335 or no?

Here's the dilemma: I'm on an extended business trip (again) but this time it's not inconceivable to drive my 335. The company provides a rental, but unlike most locations I have to go to, this place keeps giving me crap cars, which is a shame since the backroads around here are awesome. My boss has agreed to offset some of the operating costs since he wouldn't have to be paying for a rental, so it sounds like a win-win: he saves money, and I'm happier driving my own car.

The downside is: typically in the course of the day I have to make several really short trips, which isn't really good for it. But I'm thinking it's better than just sitting in the garage at home. The SO drives it maybe once every two weeks "it's way stiffer than the X1...I don't like it".

So do I fly back and get it or just suck it up in rental hell for the next 9 months or so?

Input would be appreciated.

LCI Headlights.

hey whats up guys just want it to share this .. i was coding my car today and i found this value on my ccc unit for the cornering lightss.. as you guys know if you use your lights at night and have the switch all the way to the left (adaptive headlights) everytime you turn the wheel the lights willl turn the way you turn the wheel to , but also there is this yellow ugly lights that turn on at the same time... " well not nomore after i found this cool feature.. so the lights still turn left and right but i disable the yellow ugly lights when just by setting this value to aktiv on my ccc and unchecking the box that says cornering light : as shown on the picture. :)

Dire need of help

Hey guys any chance anyone has an extra rear rim that I can borrow or buy(cheap)? Apparently the caliper on my car was left loose and my caliper went THROUGH my rim. A 240 dollar tow bill just gets the car back to my house. Now it's time for me to replace pieces but I'd like to be able to move the car. Please if anyone can help me out please let me know.

Tuning box for 320d ED edition

The Efficient Dynamic edition comes with the same n47 engine as the 177bhp and later 183 bhp engine.

As far as i am aware everthing is the same except the state of tune.

The ED edition has 163 hp and my question is can i use a tuning box for a 177 or 183 engine?

Surly the box just regulates boost and because it is the same turbo and internals etc there should be no problem?

Or am i way off.

Any help appreciated.

Help on D1s Bulb selection

Howdy So I have a bulb on my e90 2006 330i pre-lci going out. I'm just getting lost in where to buy a set of replacement bulbs. I've decided on wanting 6000k and thus I don't want the 4300k my dealership sells at $286 each.

I know there are a lot of knock off's and impostors that even fake a legitimate brand name and part number... thus making it even more difficult.

I've kind of narrowed it down to a few reputable sponsors/vendors but then get confused by the difference between a name brand like Phillips and GE they sell or the mtech brand for almost a third less.

Any ideas suggestions feedback??

losing traction?

recently i change my tires for winter and i noticed when i'm driving

when im above 2500 rpm and accelerating my traction control light appears

like i spin tires lol it happens on the dry pavement. is that normal?

Bio-diesel in a 335d

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but a search didn't bring it up.

I know the factory allows for 7% BIO which is what I've started doing (fill ~2 gallons with b50). I was thinking of maybe going to b20 as time went on but I have read that the post injection cycle (for the dpf regen) can cause issues if you run high quantities of biodiesel in our cars. Does anyone have any information on this?

Also, if I were to pick up a downpipe and the appropriate tune for it, would it be ok to run higher concentrations of bio (b50-b99?)

I live in a market with many pumps that carry quality bio, so it'd be nice to know what I can safely run. I used to run b99 in my alh and b20 in my pd vws.

500-550 whp? Safely?

Hey guys I'm getting bored of my car so my new goal is to upgrade to a stage 2 turbo maybe VTT, RB, Pure when they're released, buy the double barrel shotgun HPFP to run 100% e85 and a Cobb V3 and a Meth Kit. Can I push 500 whp safely? If I will even push that much. I heard that over 550 whp the tranny starts slipping for automatics. Any help on this would be great, thanks.

It was snowing in Texas this past week(yes, you are not reading it wrong it was really snowing in Texas) so i had to drive to work in my gf's PT cruiser for couple of days. Also drove my friends ford expedition to work for one day. So today finally weather was good and I was able to drive my car again....

Wow, it reminded me why i bought it in the first place. Feel of the steering wheel, no noise,handling, even music sounded better. And then the best part about it, when i stepped on it getting on the highway. SEX.

Corroded BBS Reps

Basically this weather has destroyed my alloys and pretty much all my alloys are corroded around the dish.

Is there a way to sort this out at home using a special type of cleaner or anything? Need to get my dish nice and shiny again!

E92 335xi on KW v3 (conservative drop), will need fender mods?

Hi!

I;ve searched extensively, and noted all the sizes people have managed to fit in the aggressive wheel threads, some with fender mods, some without, but I haven't seen anything that exactly matches my situation and would appreciate if someone could give me a simple idea how much pain I'm in for trying to fit these...my reading gives me the idea that I am going to be really really close on the outer edge to whats possible to fit on the car.

They are TE37 replicas, and the sizes I'd like to fit are:

Front: 18x9 et15 OR 18x9.5 et22 (same outer edge anyway) with 225 tire

Rear: 18x9.5 et15 with 255 tire

Tires will be Michelin PSS if that helps, and my ride height is as shown below on KW V3 coilies. I was actually considering raising a it a touch. I'm not averse to a LITTLE camber, but I don't want a lot. I know front fenders cannot be modded, I don't mind modding rear fenders, though I doubt it will be necessary, I'm only really worried about the front fitment. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Oil change after intake valve cleaning?

Quick question, searched and couldn't find the answer...do you need to change the oil after doing the carb cleaner intake valve cleaning? I thought I'd read somewhere that there was a possibilty of carb cleaner getting past the the valve seat and contaminating the oil. TIA

Tial Questions

Hey guys just let me start by saying i don't know much about bov's but I knew I wanted one so last night I put a tial on my car. Only other mods I have is an intake and the vrsf cp. Like I said, I don't know much but I do think that the bov should open up while revving at idle(correct me if I'm wrong) and mine doesn't open at all. Also mine seems to be real quiet. Iv'e never heard or seen what one is supposed to look like so I don't really have anything to compare mine to. If you guys could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if pictures will help and I'll upload some later.

2008 335xi vs 2007 335i - Alpina flash question

I currently have an FBO E92 335i 6Mt w/ LSD & I am looking at two cars. One is a 2008 335xi so I can flash the Alpina flash but the other car is a 2007 so I can't flash the transmission. I'm looking at feedback from someone who has driven both and can attest to the differences.

The cars have the same mileage 40k and same packages (sport, nav, etc) & same price $18k.

The thing it is coming down to is the Alpina flash and AWD... I would likely end up putting an LSD into the non xdrive if I were to get it.

4 x 19" MV4 alloys with tyres...what are they worth?

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my wheels due to falling out of love with the OEM ones on my M Sport. Looking to shift the following, but no idea what they are worth:

4 x genuine 19" MV4 M Sport alloy wheels with tyres.

Rears 9.5j:

1 x new Pirelli tyre fitted <2,000 miles ago with receipt

1 x Pirelli tyre with slow puncture (therefore I would suggest replacing)

Fronts 8.5j:

1 x new Pirelli tyre fitted <2,000 miles ago with receipt

1 x road legal Pirelli tyre but will need changing in <5,000 miles

3 of the 4 wheels have some slight surface kerbing (not the entire wheel) but nothing that cannot be repaired. 1 of the rear wheels has been professionally welded after a hairline crack was found, the other is fine and crack free. Both fronts are crack free.

Any ideas? :drink:

Newbie Alert - Need.More.Power (Engine mods advice needed)

Hey all! Sorry for in advance for the long post :bulge:

I have had my BMW a while now and the power bug has bitten again...it needs more. I came from a 420bhp+ Evo so used to decent bhp.

I have been doing some reading and it seems the most sensible route is map/decat pipes/intercooler to achieve around 400bhp without going silly. I am not number chasing, but want good useable power.

I currently have a 2007 E92 Coupe 335i M Sport with 60,000 miles and an auto gearbox (biggest mistake) which hasnt had any engine mods. Which I guess is the N54 engine?

I have a few questions....

Can the drivetrain handle it?

Any UK garage recommendations for doing the work, epseically the tune. Ideally near Birmingham/Warwickshire

Can the turbo's take the extra power without going bang in 5k miles?

Who does the best map (Cobb v JB4)

Does the decat make the exhaust note lower....with more grunt, and which is best?

Anything else I have missed/watch out for/dont do. I want the front to sit a little lower but guess thats just a spring change on the M Sports :dance:

Bricked ECU?

Hey guys. I've run into quite a dilemma tonight. I was trying to change the map on my e90 335i using my Cobb AP. The flash went through fine, but when I went to turn the car on, it wouldn't start. I thought that the flash was installed incorrectly, so I attempted to uninstall Cobb on my car, and the flash failed. At this point, my car's battery ran out of juice.

I was able to jump start the car using a friend's car, and ran recovery mode. Recovery mode flashed the ECU no problem, but I had the same problem with the car not starting. I tried connecting the Cobb AP to the car, and see if I could switch maps or uninstall it again and the Cobb threw an error saying that it could not recognize the vehicle. Is my car's ECU bricked?

Now my car's battery is completely dead, and jump starting it doesn't do it any good. Is there anything that I can do? Should I have the car towed to my local BMW dealership and have them replace the battery and reflash the ECU? Any idea how much this would cost me (in Los Angeles)? I would bring the car to an indy shop and have them replace the battery, but that still doesn't solve the problem of my potentially bricked ECU. What should I do at this point?

possible water damage to fuse box causing battery drain?

Hi All,

So after washing my car I noticed the passenger floor was wet. That same evening my battery died when I left it parked over night. I tested the battery at Auto Zone and that was not the issue, neither was the alternator.

Later I read that someone with the same problem of water in the passenger seat also found their glovebox to be wet and inches away from the fuse box being wet.

My question is, can this cause my battery to drain at about 1v per 2-3 hours?

If so, what are my options? Currently I'm unplugging the battery from the trunk every time I park but I hear that's bad for the car computer if do it too often. This video helps test fuses to see what is sucking it out (

), but at this point, is it even a fuse or is the the entire fuse box gone to hell?

325xi (E91 wagon) hitting the suspension (rubber) stopper going over freeway joints

After a long search for a manual 3 series sport wagon, I found (and bought) a 2006 325xi (all wheel drive) with just about 100k miles after it cleared the pre-sale inspection a couple of months ago. I have since gone on a couple of road trips with the car but on several occasions, when driving over freeway joints (say, going over a bridge, etc.) at normal speed (~70MPH) the car "bottoms" and the body seemingly hits the rubber bumpers that limit the strut/shock travel. The car has a standard (not Sport) suspension and everything is stock (i.e. it is not lowered.) Other than this the car handles ok and the ride appears normal (even though a bit too soft to my taste.)

This has never happened on my Z3, or my previous E46, driving over similar or more severe bumps, so I am wondering:

- Is this an indication that the front struts or rear shocks are worn out and need to be replaced ? The "bounce" test does not seem to show anything since the car (spring) does not yield measurably no matter how hard you push down on the front of rear bumpers ?

- Do run-flat tires increase the chances of "bottoming" when going over sharp bumps ?

- If the struts on the car need to be replaced, any suggestion for what to replace them with for a slightly stiffer ride but without losing any ground clearance (I occasionally need to drive on rough roads to reach trailheads and need all the clearance that I can get !) Also, are the shocks/struts from the xi (all wheel drive) E90 interchangeable with those of the non-xi models as well as sport/non-sport suspensions ?

- Finally, someone is advertizing a full set of shocks+struts from an 2007 E92 (Coupe with sport suspension, removed from a car with ~60k miles) on the local CL. Would it be worth looking into them as replacement parts or 60K is considered high for OEM parts ?

And, on a side note, the car's headlight high (bright) beam seems to be pointing rather low (certainly compared to all my previous cars).

Is there a possible link between the two, or is it simply a matter of a headlight in need of a routine adjustment?

Would appreciate any insights or suggestions from those who have dealt with similar issues..

newly acquired 335d

This is my fourth BMW auto, following a 1973 Bavaria and two 1984 M635 CSi. I have always done my own maintenance and will try to continue with this car if I can get adequate information on what to do and how to do it. This forum looks like a great resource. Is there good maintenance documentation available to the DIY mechanic? I see a laptop and appropriate software w/ cabling in my future. I have some time as the original 4 year warranty still has 17 months to go, and then the free maintenance goes away. I will scan all the posts in this forum but if anyone has any time saving idas I sure would appreciate a nudge in the right direction. I do not have a smart phone so the BMWwhat app will have to come much later. By the way, my M6 is for sale and listed on the 6post forum under owner classifieds.

BMW E92 Dipped beam failure

I was driving my 06 E92 335i last night and suddenly I get an error message on iDrive that says "Left dipped beam failure".

The low beam no longer works on the left side.

Anyone know what the issue is?

bmw e92 325i Misfired now wont start - please help

Hi to everyone, I am a newbie here and im in need of some help

I have been the proud owner of my bmw e92 325i '56 reg for about 12 months,

the car has been so reliable and great on fuel........... until 2 weeks ago....

the car was sat on my driveway. I started it up and there was a slight misfire , the fuel read out said I had 24 miles left in the tank. I turned the car off and then restarted it. Misfire was still present. I decided to drive to the local petrol station. The car made it approx 100ft and cut out. I sat trying to restart the car 5 times and it wouldnt fire up. The battery then died. About 2 hours later I had put fuel in the car (10 ltrs) and the gauge said 120 miles were in the tank. I added a fuel injector cleaner (scaling down the treatment for 10 ltrs of fuel) I figured if there was some crap dragged from the bottom of the tank and blocked the injectors that the cleaner would help. I then jump started the car and it would turn over but not fire. After 20 mins of trying to start the car I gave up. I removed the battery and recharged it. I came out to the car the following morning fitted the battery and it started. I left it running for a few minutes before reversing the car back onto the drive. Still had a misfire. It was running for approx 10 mins. I then turned it off and left it until the next day. The next morning the car wouldnt start and I had the restricted power warning light up, the abs light came on, the dsc light came on, the tyre pressure monitoring and the airbag warning light came on. I felt sick lol.

I kept trying to start the car with no joy. The battery died real quick and I decided to replace the battery. Now the starter motor will engage but the car wont start. The fuel pump now switches on when I unlock the car and shuts off but stays on constantly as soon as the ignition key is inserted and the ignition is on. I have used inpa to clear as many faults as I could but the majority still remain (11 faults). I also tried to reset the battery but inpa failed to do it. Here is a list of the faults reported... I used ivini to read these codes so the ivini codes are also included.

Anybody know the fuse no for E90 radio ?

Hi all, I was out today starting to run the wiring for my parrot bluetooth,and took out the stereo so I could start placing the various plugs etc , but have replaced the stereo when done to find out the stereo is not working at all.

I have noticed that when the side lights are on the radio illuminates but that it is,it does not power up at all , I did a google,and tried removing fuses 7 and 41 for a minute,but no joy,and fuse 23 slot is empty, so any thoughts or ideas people ? Thanks in advance,Dennis .

P.s I have not messed with the wiring for the HU or added anything to the standard wiring yet,cheers .

Need help from people that have installed KW v1's

I got everything bolted up and back together. I was reviewing the directions and noticed they said to remove the washer that's on the front struts if you have an aluminum perch and leave it on if you have a steel perch. This is the one that comes on the front coilovers out of the box. It's on shaft the top nut goes onto. Is the perch steel or aluminum? Did anyone else leave the washer on and did it cause any issues?

MOLD, MOLD, MOLD!!! Customer stated that the mold was caused due to humidity from the hot summer months and improper ventilation in the garage.

After everything was steamed and vacuumed we went ahead and used Leather Master Mold Remover to remove any left over traces of mold.

After the mold remover was applied we waited a day to check on the interior. Using a black light we found no mold left in the interior. Carpets, leather, wood, all free and clear of mold
