Guys, just came back from an exhilarating ride on some twisting country roads on a Saturday night...Back at home started researching performance between e46 M3 and 335i. Anyways, I came across this youtube 11 minute video compilation of BMW crashes that was just an eye opener:

Nothing graphic, but a lot of stupid and honest mistakes all by BMW drivers fm around the world.



It makes me wonder, we all love our cars and we mod them to handle better and go faster. Every now and then a forum member will share with us a sad story about being rear ended or getting into an accident that is not his fault. But did anyone actually crash their bimmer out on the track or by just doing 110 MPH in a 55 mile zone. (I am honest enough to stay that I go fast anytime I can get away with it and the road conditions permit)...



Will be good to hear some of your experiences for all of us to learn.

Are blisten b12 really a performance upgrade over sport?

I want to order some shocks and springs. I have spent some time searching on the blisten b12s. It seems like most of the reviews are saying they are a comfort improvement. I am looking for more of a performance upgrade. I believe the eibachs that comes with the kit have similar spring rates to the stock sport springs. Wouldn't the springs be a focus if I am looking to decrease body roll and make the car feel more sporty? While the price tag is great maybe this kit isn't the best choice for me. Are guys buying the b12 kit bc their shocks are old and need to replace anyways. Or are people auto-x'ing with these?



The roads are fine around here so I don't need to worry much on potholes. I am sure there are coilover setups that are very aggressive however I am looking to stay around the b12 price point.



Also I noticed people have input their vins somewhere to see what the car came with. Is there a web page for this?



My car is an e92 with sports package I believe. It had the big rims. I also ditched the run flats. I think since then i have felt like the suspension isn't sporty enough. Please help.

pre lci mtech front bumper, oem 335i side skirts, oem 335i rear bumper jet black.

Hello everyone i have 1 jet black mtech pre lci front bumper with carbon fiber splitters was only on my car for a year and the paint is still in great shape. i ordered this from JGmods it was also painted by them. i also have oem side skirts in jet black and oem rear bumper for a 335i pre lci. There is one or two small scratches on the rear bumper. The mtech bumper alone was almost $1300 shipped I'm asking $1100 obo for all of it. its all sitting at my local shop ready to be picked up. i really don't want to ship but if enough time passes and someone doesn't come get it i will ship at buyers expense and they will go to the first person who asks if it comes down to me shipping. thanks for you time.

Finally done with the gaskets and broken heald bolt- $900

After dealing with my dealership and my current extended warranty the work is finally done and i have received my car back! My out of pocket came out to be a total of $899. My extended warranty covered a total of around $1900ish. What i got replaced was the Valve cover gasket, Oil pan gasket, Mechatronic Sleeve seal and a broken headbolt under the Intake Manifold. The warranty only covered the gaskets and seal. The broken headbolt was my out of pocket bigger hit at around $500ish to replace it. NOW, i just need to replace (so far guessing) my Serpentine belt and Idler pulley, maybe my tensioner as well...I am getting a squeak from the belt area, as if the bearings in the pulley were shot....

Installing Gearshift point

I would really like this feature of gearshift point and I don't know if it is in my car. Can I get it installed? Can't imagine it being more than a software thing?

ended up being a long job as had some trouble with the fitment as I was installing with a Ss Venter section from a LCI 320d which mush have a longer downpipe. but got it to work for now. when I get a chance I'll be getting a new center section made up so the tailpipe are further out from under the bumper.

Rear suspension creak

I have the infamous rear suspension creak! I think it is the ball joint. It is my understanding that you need a ball joint press. I saw a diy on an e39 where they used a press that looked like a large c-clamp with a few different size cups that could fitted at either end of the screw.



I know you can rent one at autozone.



Has anyone used this type of press on their e90?



I have an 07 335i Sedan.



I think the ball joint on the drivers side rear is bad. I will probably buy OEM ball joints.



There is a decent diy on pelican's site. They used a different press and this press costs $159.00 on Bav auto site. Not interested in purchasing a $159.00 tool I might use 2 times or so in the next 10 years.

Will 9.5 33 front wheels fit on my 335i... Lowered on bc coilovers. They're 19's. Or is there something on the coilover that will bump?

29f3 Fuel low pressure sensor electric

Hi guys,



I'm new to the forum but have a problem hope you lot can help me with. Every morning apart from a handful of times when I pull out of the drive then 30 sec later the ECU lights come on. Whilst the ECU light is on it drives fine. I then switch the car off then back on and its gone away and doesn't come in until next morning.



I got the codes read and a few errors came up, they were cleared but the above came back on straight away. I presume its a low pressure sensor that needs changing or could it be something else. Like I said there a handful of times where it hasn't come on do you think it worth leaving it for a while and maybe it will go away eventually, if I did do that will it make the problem worse. It drives fine and no hesitation in the power etc.

New Headlights Question?

After getting my moisture issue sorted, and paying close attention to my headlights i note that the lens are really quite scratched and dull.



So Have decided to treat the beast to a new set of Eyes. I have Xenons, so my questions is:



1. Is is better to stick with New OEM Pre LCI (As my car is now)

2. Buy New OEM LCI Headlights. (What do i need to do to make them fit and work?)

3. Go aftermarket? (If so where?)



Really appreciate peoples advice, opinions, pitfalls, what to watch out for, as whatever i buy they will not be cheap!!

I have a question for you guys.



Recently my gf hit a parked semi construction with her car and caused damage to her mirror and it fell off. The truck driver agreed that his truck was not damaged and no point to do anything. She called me and I went over there and driver was nice and we all went our separate ways. No info exchanged.



A day later same parking lot she came back and there was a boot on her car and she had to report to some office.



Anyway the police were called and the truck driver is now saying he tried to get her to stop but she kept driving. He said he needs a accident report for his company otherwise he can lose his job even though they are NOT going to FILE a claim since there is no damage. So she called me to the scene and I am very confused.



The police officer was a really hostile towards my gf. He said there are cameras everywhere don't lie to me or I will have you arrested for lying to police. She said she hit the truck he goes let me write this report out.



He comes back says I wrote in the accident report that you "left the scene of a accident" , and says he took a pic of her mirror and will report to DMV in Albany (with the pics he took) because you did not exchange information and left. But I am NOT giving you a ticket for this. Then he said you must report this to your insurance company and your rates are about to skyrocket. Then he took her PBA cards and said you don't deserve them and then he complained about people having nice cars and not knowing how to drive.



So I called a few lawyers and police and everyone is confused. What is your guys input in this?



She got NO leaving the scene of accident ticket. Apparently the officer just wrote that in the report, he is also filing this to the DMV in Albany. He also told her to report it to insurance company. The construction truck had no damage and they are not filing a claim.



Should we be worried? Will this go on the Carfax record, its a leased car... I already bought the mirror painted and it will be here tomorrow.

2008 328xi 6MT - 109k

Car's in great shape, mechanically it is sound. Cosmetically there a minor nicks, no accidents, paint is in great shape for a going on 7 year old car. Because it's been through a pretty rough winter in terms of snow I highly recommend a buff etc. In the spring if I still have the car it will be getting the full treatment (can be included in sale of car if price is right).

Hood Vents

I saw in the ROUNDEL magazine a White e90 with Hood Vents and they looked MEAN on the car, anyone seen this or has them? I believe it would help keep the engine bay cooler and keep temps to a minimum since their is a better and effective way to dissipate heat from the bay. LET the games begin

Any appreciable gain by ceramic coating the down pipe?

As the subject line says, I'm considering having the down pipe (Jess's) ceramic coated but wanted to see what you all think.

Looking for best wheel size/offset for custom wheel

I own a 2007 335xi sedan and am looking into the new advent garde m540 wheels. I like the thought of a 19X9.5 square setup and am wondering if that will fit correctly or be to big for the front. I am only interested in running a square setup. If that could work I am also curious what offsets front/rear would be best in order for a flush fitment. I will be lowering on kW v1 coils. Another Suspension thread (flame suit equipped)

I have a 2008 335xi and everyone knows they drive like crap. It's bouncy and half the time I hit bumps on the freeway it feels like the rear end is gonna kick loose. We all know they have the dreaded fender gap like a 4x4. Here's my conundrum. It looks like a highly favored setup is the Koni Yellow + Eibach Pro springs. So that is my leading canidate. It looks like they will be around 8-900 with the bump stops and what not.

So I figured I would ask, in the market of $800-1200 what is the most comfortable ride? I hate floaty but I also hate when bumps feel like they will break the car into a million pieces. I know if I go with the koni/eibach my handling will be greatly improved. But I'm not going to track my car and I don't spend a lot of time trying to set records around any local back roads and twisties. I just want something to improve the feel of my car, close the fender gap (I have 19" volks) and be comfortable for daily driving. Is this my best option? Or is there something better in the price range for someone just just trying to have a peaceful drive to the office?

Thinking of selling my 2007 328xi

Looking at upgrading from my 2007 BMW 328XI (AWD Auto). I DD the car and have a 40 mile commute each way, so the mileage will increase. Currently has 152,xxx miles. Car has been meticulously maintained by the dealer. Has every major factory option installed. Pictures posted are just pictures that I had on hand of the car, it currently needs a wash and interior detail. Interior is black leather with walnut trim.



Has an extensive list of dealer installed new equipment: Complete AC system done last summer (Compressor, evaporator, condenser, lines, sensors), new radio/amp, new battery, battery cable recall completed with new fuse box and BCM(11/13). Upgraded to a BMW performance exhaust. Regular oil changes performed at the dealer. I also have a few sets of Hawk ferro-caron brake pads that I will include with it($100/set). Front rotors were replaced with EBC rotors. Practically a new car aside from the drivetrain.



I have an Mtech bumper to replace the current front bumper which has a small hole in it from hitting a raccoon. I have not had it painted yet, can include it primed or painted or keep it and reduce the price accordingly.



I have 3 sets of wheels and tires, summer tires are on 18” Motegi wheels(matte black) wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3’s. The winter tires are on 17” replica wheels(orange) and have Blizzaks on them. Tires are all 50%+ tread. Summer tires have TPS sensors installed, winter tires do not and will show a tire pressure light. Also have a spare set of Verde 17" wheels(Silver ones) with Continental run flats on them, the rubber is almost shot.





The whole car has been repainted to a factory match Frozen Black. This was done to test a new PPG paint flattening clear coat product, this is not a wrap or dip, it is actually painted this color.



The windows are tinted all the way around, 5% behind the B pillars, 20% on the front doors, and 35% on the windshield.



There no noteworthy interior blemishes, just needs to have my crap cleaned out of it and have a good detail and she looks like a new car.



Asking $11,900 for the car, with all 3 sets of wheels/tires and new bumper painted and installed

Securing the car / upgrading alarm system

With the common knowledge that our cars are easy to steal and havig heard of some going missing not too far from my area, I'm becoming increasingly worried about my car's safety.



I found out that it'll cost over £600 to get a Viper or similar system fitted so just thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone has any advice to make the car more secure without having to fork out £600+. Quick little changes like just relocating the OBD port, or a system that can be fitted for less money.



Any tips or advice would be helpful

2011 e90 lci misfire

Hi everyone,



I have a 2011 323i and my car started to misfire today and not to long afterwards, the check engine light came on. Now, my experience tells me this could ether be a coil pack malfunctioning or maybe the spark plugs? Are the spark plugs on e90's long lasting platinums 140k? Are coil packs something that gets replaced frequently on e90's? Is it one coil per cylinder?



I also filled my car up that morning (91 octane) tought that maybe this could be the problem if by accident i put in regular 87 or something but then again that would surprise me quite a bit...but no i checked by bill and it was 91 octane



So basically if I don't give it too much gas everything seems to be going quite well, but as soon as i kick down a little bit, thats when the shaking begins with a lack of power obviously.



BTW my car has 85000km's on it dunno if this can help anyone. If this could be caused by anything els, please share ;)

Splice coolant hose?

In the process of changing my OFHG, the flange that connects the front coolant hose to the engine broke. In order to replace this, I have to replace the entire hose which connects to the t-stat, and it seems as tho Id have to remove the t-stat to do this which is a pain. So my question is, would it be safe to cut and splice the old and new hoses together with a radiator hose repair kit? (Hose coupling and clamps) This would allow me to use the new upper flange but not have to replace the lower portion of the hose. Or are these kits not suppose to be a long term solution? Any input is appreciated.

Forgive me if I'm being thick here but when I start the car the Service light says 3000miles now until it's due. This is just the standard one that comes on every time the car starts.



Is this just a basic oil service?

HELP, trick EAC Sensor in n51 radiator

Hello, so i needed to replace my radiator due to damage and the n51 was about 8 times more expensive than the regular one so i go that, i took the sensor out of the old radiator and attached it to the new one but now i'm getting a SES light.

Based on my research this is because the new radiator is not coated with the magnesium oxide stuff and sensor is throwing a code. Is there anyway to "code" this sensor out of the system or to create a "bypass" or something like that to get rid of the light? the car drives fine and tailpipe emissions are good but that stupid radiator.... i dont want to spend $500 on another one considering the cars are worth so little.

What are my choices and can this communication between sensor and ecu be removed or tricked?

2007 e92 iPod Adapter not providing power to iPod

i'll preface this by saying i've searched and come up empty handed...



i have the dealer installed ipod integration...the one that runs to the glove box and is accessed through the CDChanger channel on the radio. it has worked like a charm from 2007 until now, but it's stopped providing power to the iPod.



i can remove the ipod from the car and charge it, then plug it in and it will work until the ipod battery dies.



Is there a fuse or something that might need to be replaced? Seems to be functional except that it has stopped providing power to my device.



I've tried it with my phone and an ipod, but work until battery dies.

Hello all, I have a e90 2006 with the hifi system. I upgraded to xd600 amp and underseat sws, I now need to upgrade the door speakers and front tweeters ..I was going to get logic 7 doors and tweeters ..does anyone know the wattage of the logics 7 speakers? Does the VANOS recall repair involve removing / draining any coolant?

I was taking a hard left turn for several floors around an airport parking garage and got my first ever "low coolant" warning. I had the VANOS recall performed a few months ago and now I'm just wondering if they would have possibly had to remove a coolant hose in order to complete the repair. I'll just add a little bit of coolant to get the level up and monitor but I find the timing odd. But I wouldn't expect that they had to remove any coolant hose for this recall repair so it doesn't make sense to me.

Staggered Bridgestone s-04 19" ?

Trying to figure out if there is too much diameter difference in the following setup:



F: 235/35/19

R: 265/35/19 ~3.1% difference



I've got a 09 e92 msport on 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 wheels, currently running 275/30 in the rear but that size isn't offered in the s-04. Would like to run 275/35 which is available but I'd be worried about rubbing. They do make a 285/30 but again I don't know if that would be too wide.



I'm not dead set on the s-04's so maybe I should just bite the bullet and go for some Michelin PSS's. Any help is appreciated

Identify this part of the headlight

Long story short, UPS used my headlight box as a pinata on it's way to Lightwerkz to get resealed. The headlight was damaged to the point where Lightwerkz no longer wanted to work on it. Orion V4 rings were both lose (they were epoxied on), tab broken, crack in the lense, and other various chips/breaks. Currently going through the claim process with them now.



Anyways, they sent me the headlight back to see if I can salvage it. Upon opening this part popped out -











Does anyone recognize it? It seems like it's clearly a lid but I can't figure out where it goes.

So my passengar side headlight is going up down but not left right and i have a cornering light error on my dash. Anyone have and idea? I havent read of it doing one but not the other. I figure the whole thing would go bad?? PLEASE HELP

Working through the CBU: thoughts and questions

Our 2009 335D is dead, parked because of CBU. The dealer wanted $3100 to do the CBU cleanout before he would see if there were other problems. So I am working on it myself. Although I am not a novice mechanic -- we have lots of other cars, trucks, and power equipment -- I do not do this work everyday.



I a somewhat disillusioned with BMW USA. Our car has 63,000 miles and is dead until expensive fixes are applied. The dealer wants almost nothing to do with any of this, certainly did not discuss the problems during the warranty period, and is not all that helpful.

I have a few novel insights.

1) A standard clay carving tool is very useful when cleaning the low-speed ports. Check the photos.

2) A standard 12-point socket will fit over the 4 torx bolts on the crank.

3) The stepped shop vac adapter from HomeDepot can be used to fit either intake port.

4) The Ryobi endoscope/borescope from HomeDepot works pretty well in this application.

5) Absolutely clean and re-seal the red boost hose while you are in there.



Now for the questions.

1) Which way does the crank turn? The instructions all say to not turn it the wrong way but never mention which way is the right way. Clockwise or counterclockwise when viewed from the front?



2) Has anybody bothered to gasket match the head when the intake is off? I am in there, and the die grinder is close by. Is there any reason NOT to gasket match the head? I assume the head is A356 and will be easy to cut.



3) These cars, in the US, came with a special tax rebate for ultra high mileage and ultra low emission. Both the CBU and especially the leaky boost hose defeat the low emission/high mileage aspect of these cars. There is a sort of EPA-IRS tax fraud like action going on. Many many cars have been recalled for less. Has anybody pursued these issues on the political front?



I think this area is ripe for exploration, but if somebody else has already been down this road, tell me how it went.



4) Using the online manual tool, is there a way to download the whole thing?

I replaced my Goodyear run flat tires (225/45/18) with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (225/40/18). Because my car originally had 17-inch rims the 45 series tire was one inch taller than the stock setup. Even with the reduced sidewall, the ride quality is much better and as for the handling. . . well, let's just say I should have done this tire change a year ago when I first bought the car. The old tires still had plenty of tread so I was a bit reluctant to replace perfectly good, albeit average tires!! I also like the fact each tire is four pounds lighter and the car seems to roll easier once I let off the gas.

Wheels are in 8-8.5/10 condition. Some nicks and blemishes on the very outer edges that have been touched up. Completely unnoticeable unless you know to look for it. One rear wheel has a 2.5" curb rash which can also be touched up.

I made a 3 port OCC with -AN fittings and "AD Engineering" fittings in valve cover and decided to test pressure. I put fiiting in oil cap and ran vac line to gauge.

Occasionally when you go to take off in my car (E90 325i) it feels as if the brakes are grabbing then you feel a sudden let go and it takes off. It doesn't do it all the time.

Car won't start in cold mornings 2006 E90 330i

I've been racking my brain looking for an answer for this, a week ago when the temperatures started to dip to the 50's here in FL my car started having problems starting the car in the mornings, I replaced the battery but still ave the same problem, the car turns over but wont start but if I jump it with my wife's car it will eventually start. then runs fine through the day then if i 50's in the morning is the same thing. the other day we had a break and was like 65 degrees and it started right away. Has anybody else had this problem? has it been resolved?

30ff low boost pressure

2010 bmw 335 63000miles



Got 30ff code last night when driving normal merging on freeway then was only able to boost 8 psi which would drop down to 5. Today boost is going up to 12 psi and drops to around 11 And no half engine light has come on today as yet.



Recently install jb4 about 4 days ago. Now have 30ff boost leak code. Current mods are 7" vrsf intercooler, jb4, vrsf chargepipe.



Changed stock diverter valves a month before jb4 install to new stock diverter valves. Could the new stock diverter valves be leaking already?Noticed hissing when car is running from around the front intake/diverter valve area. Intercooler looks fine.



Any help would be appreciated

2010 335d CEL, BMW saying DEF/SCR related parts not covered by CA emission warranty

My 2010 with 51000 miles has had CEL on intermittently now for the past 2 months. Car is now a the dealer claiming the following part numbers are broken and are not covered under BMW CA emissions warranty:

I looked up the parts and they seem to be related to the SCR pump unit. Since when is BMW denying SCR pump units under CA emission warranty?

Dealer wants $2200 for the fix. Telling me the truth?

I called BMW NA customer relations and they've basically said only the dealer can deal with BMW warranty dept to get this covered.



Does anyone else have any further recourse on this? Of course, if I decide to give up and take my car home and then take it to another dealer, I'll be on the hook for $150 in diagnostic fees. If I do find a friendlier dealer who gets BMW to cover the said broken parts, will I be reimbursed?

Headlights are too low

No matter what I did I couldn't get hem up :lol: I even changed the leveling sensor . I fiddled with the bracket . Adaptive headlights,high beams,self leveling all works just fine . I've tested the level with putting my weight on trunk . Is it because of aftermarket lowering springs? I raised them all the way up manually still too low.Tomorrow I'll check it's positioning under cars weight. It's driving me crazy :(

m/s keeps switching to auto

Ok guys I've tried to search the problem can't find it can someone help



so I always drive my car with the stick on m/s mode changing the gears it's been having like a jerky feeling when I switch up in gears s rpm ometimes it gives me a little acceleration



today I was driving and my car felt like it went to auto with my stick on m/s it stayed in the same of 3500 and I was in 5th gear switched it down to 1st gear still stayed in the same rpm basically looked like I was going 60mph on 1st gear.



so I was switching my stick to D then back to m/s went normal then after 10 seconds did the same.



had to turn off and on my car then it drove normal again.

It will not only be cheaper than a OEM aero lip with paint (~$450) but I really like the look of CF. I already have a CF performance spoiler so this will be a nice touch of CF for the front, while adding a lowered look.



Does anyone have a Hamann lip, and what do you guys think about it?

Liquid /form a gasket for OFHG... Yes or no?

I have been looking into this for a little bit now ...I am asking myself (and would like to hear some opinions on this one) if a gasket maker like Three Bond TB1207B or maybe something like Toyota FIPG could be used on this application...While removal of the liquid gasked can be a pain to clean if problems would come up, maybe it woul be more practical and trouble free for a good lenght of time...My car currently has about 68k but looking at the car previous work orders I see that it gasket leak and replacement was offered when the car had about 56k miles. I did a search on this but nothing on this subject anywhere...If is good for a Toyota truck waterpump and able to last for 120k, maybe it could be lasting pretty long on our engines as well...Looking at the flimsy BMW gasket (that I already have) it does not give me a large amount of confidence regarding the time that would last or performance... Liquid gasket has been used in many aplications and don t see what the issue would be here. I have this post in the diy area but in a few days there was no answer, so I thought I may get some answers in here...

Looking to get a 4 wheel alignment done and not sure what specs to tell the garage to work to? Guessing standard specs will no longer apply once car has been significantly lowered.

Gearbox Remap ordered

Well I decided to push the button and order this today.



I will be in receipt of the new software and an OBD programmer to load it into the TCU in a day or 2.



Apparently it can take up to a couple of hundred miles to fully adapt and will keep improving during this period.



I am told to expect:-

1) Torque converter locking up faster :party0030:

2) faster gear changes (approx. 30%) :thumsup:

3) Faster response from paddle shift to gear change (approx. 50%) :happyanim:

Spare Suggestions

Last week I had to visit NYC on a Sunday evening as much as I tried avoiding potholes, I hit one and my evening was hell from there. Long story short, after being towed to a 24/7 tire shop and purchasing a $50 shitty tire for $200 just so I could get home I have decided to carry a spare.



My car is lowered on H&R springs with 12MM spacers and is currently running on 19inch wheels 235/35/19 tires. I want to carry a spare in my trunk which is usually empty for long drives. I was thinking buy a 19inch rim and mount a cheap tire on it and keep it in the trunk? But not sure which rims would fit my car.



I saw a 200$ + spare tire for BMW, but I'd rather get a proper tire with a rim that I can drive more than 50 miles if needed.



Few noob questions:



1- For temp emergency use, can I use a 17inch spare with 19inch other wheels?



2- Do I need a BMW specific wheel for my car or any other wheel would work?



Any other suggestions?
