According to what I have heard, there is an great possibility that with the 2015(?) LCI and the introduction of the all new B engine family, the F80M3 will be the only car with more than 4 cylinder in the 3er product family. I think there are very low chances that the B58 and B58 will come in regular AG BMWs below the 5er class.
That seems totally clear for the gasoline engines, were the 335i will get an B48 2.0ltr.I4 Turbo with more than 300hp ... so that there is no more place for an gasoline R6 below the M3 ... if Bmw does not decide to bring an M Performance M340i with an ~380(?)hp B58 3.0ltr.I6 Turbo - sane engine as planed for the M2(?).
For the diesel engines (not so important for the USA) the B47 in its max output version surely will replace the I6 in the 330d ... since I don´t beleave at an 2.0ltr.I4 B47 diesel engine with 300hp, I think the 335d would be stricken and there are reasonable hopes for an M Performance M340xd with round 350hp - much more hopes than about an ~380hp M340i !
So from the time of the LCI in the F30 and F31 an R6 would mean buying an M model.;)
