The gremlins got me...need help.

Just got my car back from a few days of doing Inspection I (everything went well, no major adjustments, no oil leaks, engine looked great).

Anyways, drove about 100 - 150 miles yesterday. Car runs flawlessly. Today, went to get bagels, car ran perfectly. On my way home, and going up a narrow, steep and very busy mountain, my car just goes BAM! Cuts out.

At first I think "HOLY CRAP I JUST DUMPED OIL AND KILLED MY ENGINE".

The service engine light goes on, oil and a few other lights. I immediately pull over. Now my engine won't turn over. I check the oil to make sure I didn't dump it, and plenty of oil. I keep trying a few more times. Seems like something electrical is happening now. The flashers cut in and out, I only get the full "start-up" lights when I try to turn it over. Try a few more times and I notice the computer has been reset...no MPG reading, Avg. MPH, trip etc., all at zeroes., like when the battery has been disconnected.

So I have it towed home. Now when I put the key on, ONLY the ABS brake shows...no odometer, computer, oil, seatbelt, airbag or ANY lights come on in the dash. JUST the ABS light.

Also, the battery isn't doing the click-click-click-click-click-click noise that I'm used to when it runs out of juice...more of a long whine/chug from the engine.

I'm charging the batter now, and will try in an hour or two.

Does this seem like:

1. Need a new battery...this one is 4-5 years old, been through a few winters where it needed charging etc.

2. Need a new alternator

3. Someone forgot to connect something during Inspection I or it wiggled loose

4. Throw it out, car is no good now

5. Something else
