I am new to this forum, but been creepily lurking for quite some time. With that being said, I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find the answer to my question in the existing wealth of information, but had no luck.
A little about myself: I have a 2010 335d. We also have an E46 in our garage. My husband is the mechanic in the family, and I am the assistant (as in "hand me the wrench, woman"), but all the computer and coding stuff in the 335d has led me to google incessantly to make sure I am being told the "right" information about my car (hence why I am here) and the right steps are being taken. I love the 335d. If any vehicle were this "hard" (and costly), we would have probably turned it over by now.
First, I really hope this doesn't turn into the tortured injector failure 335d group therapy session thread that I know is so prevalent... Definitely not my intent. Since I purchased my 335d, I've read all the forums on injector issues and was hoping I might be one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately, I had a misfire on cylinder 1 and smooth running errors on another, which started this debacle.
The stealership wanted to replace all injectors (and couldn't answer "why" when I asked why we should be replacing all the injectors rather than just the ones with codes...) so I yanked it and took it to a shop. They cleaned the injectors which worked for about 3000 miles (no codes, no misfires, etc.) Now, I've got codes on limit at min/max on the 2 injectors again. SO, we went ahead and ordered the two new bmw injectors to the tune of $545/each and now that they arrived I realize that they are NOT the same part number/injector as the original, but yet they are the "replacement" part. It appears bmw has changed the injectors (maybe a good thing?) The new injectors, allegedly, have a lower flow rate than the existing.
My question is this: do I need to replace ALL the injectors due to the change in flow rate (is this why the dealership wanted to replace them all?)? Three of them? Or am I okay just replacing the 2? I was concerned with the different flow rate required and whether it may cause me to pull codes on the others. My licensing is due and I gotta get this thing to pass an emissions test (no SES light) within the next week or two. I am not opposed to replacing them, I just don't have the week it took bmw to find just ONE of the injectors. No idea what I would be looking at for the rest.
