Does the VANOS recall repair involve removing / draining any coolant?

I was taking a hard left turn for several floors around an airport parking garage and got my first ever "low coolant" warning. I had the VANOS recall performed a few months ago and now I'm just wondering if they would have possibly had to remove a coolant hose in order to complete the repair. I'll just add a little bit of coolant to get the level up and monitor but I find the timing odd. But I wouldn't expect that they had to remove any coolant hose for this recall repair so it doesn't make sense to me.
