CF wrapping silver DCT shifter trim?

So as many of us have found out, the silver portion of the DCT shifter is prone to scratches. I have some spare 3M DI-NOC CF vinyl laying around and really would like to attempt to wrap the silver portion of the shift knob. Has anyone removed or disassembled the knob itself? Is it possible to take the black piece off without damaging it?
