i only drive about 600 miles in a month, but i'm looking for some ways to regularly check for issues with the water pump/tstat, preferably without using a bmw code scanner since i do not have one, i just have a normal obd2 scanner.
some kind of test i can do weekly would be great, like letting it idle for some period of time and checking the coolant temp over obd2 (connected to my phone)
or that trick of holding the coolant line to feel for pressure buildup or lack thereof.
or maybe some telltale normal codes i can get from a regular obd2 scanner that aren't bmw "ghost-codes"?
the alternative is to just bring it to my local indie one a month and pay them $50 to scan for ghost codes.
